About Hands Off Our Hills
Hands Off Our Hills are independent of any political party, we are made up from people of all walks of life. Funded by donations and public events, Hands Off Our Hills uses every penny received to help raise awareness and fund our campaigns against these large industrial wind turbine sites.
What we do
Our aim is to raise awareness of the proposed industrial wind turbine sites in the Galloway Hills and setup organised campaigns to fight them. We lobby both locally and nationally. All information provided by whistleblowers, internal researching and concerned residents is fact checked before we use it to strenghen our campaigns.
RES Community Liaison Group – Our Stance
It is imperative to underscore that Hands Off Our Hills maintains NO affiliation or alignment with any of the member groups or participants associated with the RES Community Liaison Group. This initiative is perceived by us as a farcical public relations endeavour employed by RES to modify their planning application in response to community concerns and to gather additional information regarding opposition sentiments.
Consequently, it should come as no surprise that Hands Off Our Hills will not participate in this community liaison group, and instead we will persist as vocal opponents of this corporate undertaking.
Our Team Management
Keeps Everything Organised
ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE TREATED WITH THE SAME RESPECT AND GRATITUDE.
Hands Off Our Hills is made up of a group of teams who together make sure that our campaigns run smoothly. Each team is specifically setup in a way that allows our volunteers to use their own personal experiences and specialities. Each volunteer can pick and choose which team they want to work with, some whom work across many different teams, and there is absolutely no commitment whatsoever to the number of hours/minutes they can dedicate to the campaign.

Dumfries and Galloway
Dumfries and Galloway has played a significant role in Scotland’s efforts for achieving net-zero, and we commend their initiatives.
However, there are concerns raised regarding the proposed industrial wind turbine sites in the Galloway Hills, as the turbines could exceed 200 meters, impacting historical landmarks, and other vital ecological resources.
While renewable energy is crucial for a sustainable future, protecting the significance of the Galloway Hills, preserving the vast peatlands that protect neighbouring communities, and preventing further damage to the environment is equally essential.
Newton Stewart, renowned as the “Gateway to the Galloway Hills,” stands as a notable tourist destination. Both locals and visitors alike cherish the serenity offered by these historically significant hills.
The proposed construction of industrial wind turbines poses a threat to the preservation of the hills’ rich history. In lieu of the tranquil landscape, vast concrete foundations and industrial structures, ranging from 200 to 250 meters in height, could mar the vista overlooking the market town of Newton Stewart and the quaint village of Glentrool.
The once idyllic scenery may be supplanted by the constant hum of stationary airplanes, and the famed dark skies might yield to the intrusion of bright red aviation lighting. Dumfries and Galloway boast unparalleled scenic beauty, and it is imperative to halt the proliferation of these imposing and unnecessary structures before our landscapes are overwhelmed by such colossal intrusions.
Once planning is granted then all what we currently take for granted will be lost, and instead for several decades, locals and tourists will have to endure the once treasured land being an industrial power factory instead and the landscape never returning to what we once remembered and treasured. We must not permit this to happen, and that is precisely why Hands Off Our Hills will persist in its campaign for as long as necessary.
Our stance is unequivocal: Say NO to the turbines!
Industrial Turbine Sites
There are currently four proposed Industrial Wind Turbine Sites within the Galloway Hills: one by Renewable Energy Systems, one by E-Power, and two by EnergieKontor.
